How our Online Courses Work

  • 9-week sessions

  • Asynchronous learning - Each module includes a short lesson, a few follow-up questions, and a creative assignment, usually taking 1–2 hours per week. Modules open a week early so learners have plenty of time to explore and complete the work.

  • Weekly 1-hour live class for discussion, questions, and optional project sharing (this is optional).

Live classes are supportive and low-pressure. Learners are never required to share and are encouraged to participate in ways that feel comfortable for them. The teacher is available throughout the class via private message to answer questions or provide guidance whenever needed.

Designed to Build Independent Online Learning Skills

Our courses gently prepare learners for independent online learning while providing more support than typical online courses. Using the Canvas Learning Management System, students practice navigating modules, tracking deadlines, submitting work, and communicating with teachers. No prior experience is needed, learners are guided step-by-step, with flexibility built in to handle any technical or organizational challenges.

Assignments, Feedback & Flexibility

Courses are not traditionally graded.

  • 100% credit is given for assignments turned in on time, along with individualized feedback

  • Learners may revise and resubmit work after feedback if they choose

  • A 5-point deduction applies to late work only if the learner has not reached out ahead of time

We understand schedule changes, overwhelm, and oversights. As long as learners communicate before an assignment is late, flexibility is always offered.

Self-Advocacy is a Core Skill

A major focus of Raising Brain courses is building self-advocacy. Learners are guided in recognizing when something feels confusing or stressful, communicating their needs, and asking for clarification or support. If a learner feels overwhelmed or stuck, they or their parent are encouraged to reach out. Learning to advocate for oneself is an essential life skill and a key part of success in online learning.

What Learners Build

All courses are rooted in social-emotional learning, critical thinking, perspective-taking, and clear communication skills. Learners practice navigating challenges, improving situations, and reducing misunderstandings, skills that support both academic growth and everyday life. Our goal is not compliance or perfection, but confident, supported learners who understand how they learn best.
